  • What does the flame sensor do and why does it fail?

    It is a metal rod that confirms flame is present, and the control board shuts the gas valve if it does not sense one. Oxidation builds on the rod over time, weakening the signal until the burners drop out.

  • Why does my furnace make a booming sound at startup?

    Delayed ignition. Gas accumulates briefly before lighting, usually because burners are dirty, the igniter is weak or gas pressure is off. It stresses the heat exchanger every time it happens and should be corrected quickly.

  • What is a cracked heat exchanger and how is it found?
